Lessons

Check out our “Meet the Instructor” page to see videos from Sarah, our certified teacher.  (Olivet College class of 2007–History Major, English Minor, certified to teach Kindergarten through Eighth grade students. She chose not to teach in a school, though–she loves horses too much. She’s fun, we promise!) She uses her degree to teach students of all ages here.

Canceling:
Wintertime rules: we cancel lessons each time the windchill is at or below Zero degrees.

Summertime rules: we cancel lessons each time the temperature or heat index is above 95F, if it’s thundering or hailing, or if your child wears shorts or capris instead of long pants.

As everyone who rides with me should know by now, if you have to cancel for any reason, I NEVER charge you. Life happens! Just call me to let me know that you won’t be here, or else I worry. I care about my students and their families, and I want to be sure you’re safe.

Do you know someone who is flat-out horse crazy? This is the barn for them.

Year-Round Lessons available, your horse or ours

Large indoor arena and heated tacking area

Our first lesson is an hour and a half, where you learn how to catch a horse, you learn horse/prey vs. human/predator psychology, and ride bareback on a lunge line so you learn your center of balance.

BRAND NEW Students–First Lesson

Brand new students have an hour and a half first lesson where they learn about horses, horse psychology and how to groom. Lessons never expire and don’t have to be used in any particular time frame.

$65.00

Additional lessons beyond the first lesson are $30/lesson or 4 lessons for $100.

Individual Gift Certificates

Individual Gift Certificates are generally $30 each for a single, one-hour lesson. Paypal does add on fees, so the cost of a gift certificate does rise to $31.50 through that site. (I apologize! I forget to mention that sometimes.)

This barn is owned and operated by a former Girl Scout Camp Assistant Horse Riding Director who has another 8 years teaching Riding Lessons in the Brighton/Hell area. She also has a teaching degree (classroom K-8.) We practice safety, first and foremost. Everyone at the barn is expected to wear a helmet when riding, and if you don’t own one, we have helmets you can borrow.

How is this barn different? It’s simple. We love riding, but we’re horse lovers, not just riders. Every lesson is a horse lesson, not just a riding lesson. Horse psychology, habits, grooming, tack care, and horse health/care information are in every session—not just learning how to sit on the animal’s back.  We are horsewomen, not just riders. We learn about everything regarding horses.

We also board (and train) privately-owned horses:

Indoor board – $475/month

Outdoor board – $375/month

Trick training and pleasure training for horses-inquire for rates

We support all natural horsemanship practices.

Hi, at what age do you accept child for riding lessons?

    • I accept children as early as 3 years old, depending on whether or not they can follow instructions and stay safe around the horses. If they’ll communicate openly–letting me know that they are listening and able to tell me that they’re actually internalizing the lesson–I’m happy to take them as soon as they’re ready to learn. 😉
