Spring

(This poem is from Horse Rhymes, one of my poetry books available on Amazon.com. For further information, check out the “Writing” tab above.)

Spring
Her shiny red coat,
so warm and so healthy
deceptively sheds
This girl is so stealthy

She’ll rub on a tree
on a shelter or post
and right now as she rolls
that’s what she loves the most

There’s a fur-angel left
on the ground where she laid,
you can see where she’s been
like a map that she made

I’ve groomed with a hard brush
she keeps dropping hair
each shedding blade pass
gives me fur balls to spare

But she’ll keep giving gifts
That are chestnut red
Until summer comes
I will just shake my head.
