I’m so excited. A lesson student’s mother and I are putting together a 4-H group here at Firefly Farm! We need a name, though, and I’m stumped.
We’re going to have the basis for the group be learning about horses through natural horsemanship. This means Parelli, Clinton Anderson, John and Josh Lyons, Chris Cox, Lynn Palm–a little bit of everything. I can’t wait. I surrounded myself with people who know about different aspects of horsemanship and are as excited as I am. We’re definitely going places!
The meeting with the MSU extension office is happening Tuesday or Wednesday of next week. I can’t wait.
In other news, I knew the ponies were intelligent, but sometimes they startle me. I have acted like a horse in many respects and am definitely the “boss mare,” but today was downright…startling. I went out into the pasture to put up more ribbon wire, and I had a lot of trees/shrubs to cut down in order to put it up. The horses were all grazing on hay piles I’d put in the middle of the pasture. Once I started cutting tree branches, they came over to see what was happening. All of a sudden, Senorita (the instigator, of course!) reached up and started eating leaves off the trees. The other horses all followed suit. It was as if they were watching me, decided that what I was doing was worth a try, and they all–ALL–started eating leaves off of the trees I was trying to clear. Talk about dumbfounded. They had perfectly good hay they ignored simply because they saw me taking out tree branches. I’ve never seen anything like it. Once I left the pasture, I watched them a while. One by one they drifted back to the hay piles. I’m still amazed.
Unfortunately (or fortunately?) The kitty I was offered is no longer available. Aww. So for now, it’s just Tip, Diva, Yoda, and Penny. That’s ok, though. Someday we’ll have more. They have to be spayed or neutered, dewormed, and must have their front claws. (Not that I’m asking for more kittens, but it’s good to put it out there.) I also hope someday to get another black and white kitten. (Hint to the universe…)
